Japanese Ramen

Leave your own review on www.MollaKorea.com. Just: Click Here

Although I've been to Japan, I've never been there with any money (long story for another time). This means I've never had authentic Japanese ramen in Japan. Sure I've tried a few random places in Korea, but nothing really stood out until I found this place in Pyeongtaek. It was delicious. A place I would go out of my way to eat at for sure.

Now, I'm not telling you this is 100% authentic, because I don't know what that even tastes like, I'm just saying I loved eating here and it tastes way more delicious than other ramen I've had. The menu is simple and the shop is small.  It's the perfect place to grab lunch alone or with a friend, but not for large groups.

I finally have my go-to place near AK plaza! It's been a while since I'd found a place I was really excited about for lunch.

It's also very easy to find, right near Del Vino on the other side of the street.

Oishi

When I want sushi rolls I go to Oishi in Songtan, full stop. I'm not talking sashimi, I'm talking rolls. Since college, I've been a sushi roll addict so I'm glad I can still get my fix in my neighborhood. Sometimes I'm there two or three times a week, and at this point it's like my Cheers. My absolute favorite things to order are the Spicy Tuna and Spicy Salmon Rolls (although I have loved every other one that I have tried) and Shrimp Tempura Udon.

There are three primary reasons this place is my go too:
1) They don't use too much rice
2) Their sauces don't ruin the roll
3) The fish is quality every time

In addition to the food, the staff is simply lovely and I enjoy my time there. It's relaxed, they know me. When I'm eating alone I can pull up a spot at the sushi bar and chat or just chill by myself if I'm tired. I like that fact, I can talk or not talk.  It's my choice.

If you are looking for you sushi hangout, consider getting your butts over to Oishi.  No one I've met has ever regretted it.

Japanese Ramen: 소노야

With all the talk of Japanese ramen lately, I felt compelled to try the new place I noticed behind Starbucks.  It's cute, affordable, and self services.  That means, even though the place is quite small, you will be going to the country to pick-up and return your meal.  You will also get your own water and drinks. Just an FYI for those that aren't use to this style of service.  I chose the miso ramen which was warm and soothing.  This wasn't ramen that changed my life, but it was a nice lunch at a nice price.  Not entirely Japanese in flavor, but also not entirely Korean, it walked the line between countries with relative grace.  If you aren't a ramen enthusiast this is going to taste delightful to you, however, if you are specifically craving Japanese ramen then it could feel like a disappointment since it's not spot on.  Personally, I will chose this over other Korean ramen shops because of the noodles. Even though I often crave ramen like crack, it's not that kind to my stomach so I don't often eat it.  However, this dish treated me right and I left feeling light and warm.  It's certainly a place I will go again when I'm downtown Pyeongtaek eating again.Of course, there are also many other options on the menu that looked great so it's also a good place to take the kids.Location:Behind the (New) Starbucks in PyeongtaekAddress: 경기도 평택시 평택동 293-1

Cabin Shabu Shabu

Pyeongtaek Restaurants
We love

So, you need to wow your date with delicious Korean food and an intimate, cozy setting?  This is the place you want to go.  This shabu shabu restaurant is located in a stunning, log cabin on the side of hill. Inside its warm lighting and plants that wind through the space make the wide open room seem intimate and you muck more attractive.  It's by far one of the most romantic restaurants I have found in Korea.  Heck, even the pot you cook in is downright sexy.

To top it all off, the food is excellent. The fresh veggies, quality seafood, meat and noodles have impressed everyone we have ever brought here.  It's a rare person who isn't going to love this.  Shabu shabu is straight up fun to eat and at this restaurant the food is only as spicy as you chose to make it. That means even your kids, picky friends, and out of town guests are going to be able to eat themselves sick. As an added bonus, they even serve wine by the glass here.

Holy 음식 Batman!
This is our idea of heaven.
When we have a bit more money to spend
and want eat too much sushi, we go here.
Although it's more expensive than something things,
it blows our mind how much we get for our money.

This is for serious sashimi lovers only.
It's also only for groups,
although we eat 4 servings between 2 people.
Either way, prepare to eat until you want to die.

It's on the same street as Monkey Papa.
However, instead of left at Port of Mocha, go right.
The address below is not really great and maybe you can't understand the Naver Map.  Hopefully the Monkey Papa and Port of Mocha help you find it.
